Shirt Back and Sides specialise in custom made to order fancy back shirts and bespoke waistcoats. We are, as far as we are aware, the only place where your fabric can be chosen from anywhere in the world. This makes most of our garments unique.
Hello my name is Mark, owner of Shirt Back and Sides, here to give you an insight into me and how I brought this business to life.
I grew up in Lincolnshire son of a Nursery man (grower of Cacti and succulents). My father exhibited at county shows including Chelsea Flower Show and Hampton Court. At 16 I left home to follow my career which was in game keeping. Besides the country sports that go along with this position I was also taught the etiquette of the upper classes, meeting Royalty and politicians. Around 1998 I moved back to Lincolnshire and started my own gardening business which has gone from strength to strength. In 2013 while setting a business up with a business partner we came across a concept of fancy backing formal shirts.
A fancy back shirt, a formal or business shirt or blouse having its back or back and sleeves removed and replaced with a pattern and having the original cuffs replaced, all in such a way that when a jacket is worn it cannot be seen. That is simple enough but what patterns do I choose to make? It was now that we hit a bit of a wall. We could buy and make shirts which would not sell, costing me money which I could ill afford as no one has the same taste. We also took into account that if a lady goes out and meets another guest wearing the same dress, she is not happy. The same would be said for a man buying a fancy back shirt. Therefore, in order to make a shirt, the client would have to choose his own pattern and once made I could not sell the same pattern to the surrounding area to the first, so never the same pattern shall meet. A good idea BUT this idea is not just good it’s great, thinking about it I realised I am offering a bespoke service, making a customised unique shirt, one we maybe won’t make again. Each shirt has an authenticity certificate so you know its limited edition number. The number 1 is the original.
I opened Shirt Back and Sides as a sole trader in 2016. I also offer waistcoats and matching bow ties. Employing a fantastic team of machinists has also been a key factor in the rise of SB&S.
In conclusion, after months of careful thought, deliberation and planning I can now offer a service that is unique, bespoke and top quality. SB&S would appreciate your follows and likes on social media.
